July 5th to 30th, 2023
Exhibition “Aqueducts of Portugal: Water and Heritage”
Exhibition “Aqueducts of Portugal: Water and Heritage”, by Pedro Inácio
Casa dos Condes, Alcoutim
Monday to Friday, except holidays
9:30 am — 1:00 pm | 2:00 pm — 5:00 pm
The exhibition includes photographs that result from the photographic survey, started in 2007, by the museologist Pedro Inácio, within the scope of the research work that culminated in the publication of the book “Patrimóvel Cultural da Água-Roteiro de Aquedutos” edited, in 2021, by the City Council de Mafra and institutionally supported by the National Commission of UNESCO and by the Water Museum of EPAL.
Through this exhibition, we travel through one of the most relevant testimonies of our historical and cultural heritage, highlighting the importance of these ancient gravity water supply systems, of which the Conímbriga aqueduct, built during the Roman Empire, in the 1st century AD, stands out, as well as as some hydraulic works classified as World Heritage (namely in Elvas, Évora, Mafra and Tomar).
Pedro Inácio was born in Lisbon, has a degree in Historical Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Museology and Heritage and is currently a Museologist and Conservator of the EPAL Water Museum.
