Exhibition “Freedom: 50 Years in Memories”

From April 25th to May 31st, the Carlos Brito Municipal Library, in Alcoutim, hosts the exhibition “Freedom: 50 Years in Memories”, part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

This exhibition, promoted by the Municipal Museum/Municipality of Alcoutim, is made up of 10 panels, and aims to guide the visitor on a journey through the memories, personal and non-transferable, of 6 relevant personalities from the local and perhaps national community, of the events that preceded and followed the April 25th 1974.

On April 25th, at 10:15 am, the exhibition and the brochure “Freedom: 50 Years in Memories” will be presented at the Carlos Brito Municipal Library, in Alcoutim, as part of the Celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the April Revolution.

On April 24th, at 10pm, Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, hosts another show as part of the “Liberdade: 50 Anos de Liberdade” project: Música no Teu Tempo.

“Música no Teu Tempo” is a music show by a local group that sings Zeca Afonso and intervention songs, promoted by the Union of Parishes of Alcoutim and Pereiro.

On April 20th, at 10 pm, Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, hosts another show as part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project: Até Amanhã Liberdade.

“Até Amanhã Liberdade” (See you tomorrow Freedom) is a theater and music show, promoted by Companhia Rituais dell Arte, it presents the chronology of the events of the 25th of April, told by two military radio broadcasters. The show includes historical sound effects, testimonies from Salgueiro Maia, radio reports with the population of Lisbon, among others.

This is a show that invites the public to live the post-April 25th, 1974.

The Municipality of Alcoutim starts next Saturday, April 20nd, a cycle of activities integrated into the commemoration program for the 50th anniversary of the Revolução dos Cravos:

• April 20th, 10 pm – Theater and Music Show “Até Amanhã Liberdade” (Until Tomorrow Freedom”), which aims to portray the April 25, 1974 in Lisbon. The show is free to enter, at Espaço Guadiana in Alcoutim.
• April 22nd to 28th, 5 pm – “Alcoutim Lembra Abril”, the first thematic series of the radio program “Memórias de Alcoutim”, repeats every day of the week, on Rádio Clube de Alcoutim, 94.4 FM.
• April 24th, 10 pm – Music show “Musica no Teu Tempo” (Music in Your Time), local group singing Zeca Afonso and intervention songs. The show is free entry, at Espaço Guadiana in Alcoutim.
• April 25th , 10 am – Official celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April with its own program that can be consulted here.
• Aplir 26th, 10 pm – Afonso Dias presents the project “O Princípio da Igualdade” (The Principle of Equalit), at Espaço Guadiana in Alcoutim. The show is free entry.

The date in question marks the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25th, for which the municipality has, since 2023, been developing a project on the theme “Liberdade: 50 Anos de Liberdade” (Freedom: 50 Years of Freedom).

On March 16th, at 9pm, Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, hosts another show as part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project: Os Dias da Rádio.

The importance of radio in the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s in Portugal and around the world is the theme of this show by Companhia Rituais dell Arte, conceived, written and staged by Miguel Ruivo Duarte.

On stage there will be a fictitious broadcast of the program “”Aguenta Coração com tanta emoção”, with some very popular radio items, namely: Rádio Novela, “Eu dou-te o arroz”, a music competition, “Os reis da canção da rádio”, a moment of comedy, a tribute to Raul Solnado, the Parodiantes de Lisboa and, also, references to Orson Wells’ War of the Worlds and what happened in Portugal in the invasion of the Martians in Carcavelos through an invention of a program on Rádio Renascença.

As for music, songs by Júlia Babo, Maria da Graça, Milú, Maria Eugénia, Irmãs Meireles, Francisco José, Tristão da Silva and Madalena Iglésias will be heard.

This is a show that invites the public to travel through time, remembering songs and habits typical of this telephony environment!

Exhibition “Salazar: 40 years?

From March 14th to April 17th, the temporary exhibition room at Casa dos Condes – Carlos Brito Municipal Library, in Alcoutim, hosts the exhibition “Salazar: 40 years?”, part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

This exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Mértola, is made up of drawings by Cláudio Torres, in collaboration with Flausino Torres, who had the idea of selecting from António de Oliveira Salazar’s speeches some phrases and statements that, in a certain way, framed the drawings of the son.

From the 4th to the 10th of March, the temporary exhibition room at Casa dos Condes – Biblioteca Municipal Carlos Brito, in Alcoutim, hosts the exhibition “1974-2024, 25 de abril SEMPRE”, part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

This exhibition, promoted by the Confederação Geral dos Trabalhadores Portugueses – Intersindical Nacional, integrated into the Operational Program Social Inclusion and Employment, Portugal 2020 – European Social Fund, aims to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Carnation Revolution with an explanation of the struggle of the Portuguese people to obtain the Freedom.

On February 9th, at 9pm, Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, hosts another show as part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

In this show, Afonso Dias sings verses by former deputy, poet and writer Carlos Alfredo de Brito.
