From August 22nd to September 30th, the village of Giões, in the parish council building, hosts the exhibition “Freedom: 50 Years in Memories”, part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

This exhibition, promoted by the Municipal Museum/Municipality of Alcoutim, is made up of 10 panels, and aims to guide the visitor on a journey through the memories, personal and non-transferable, of 6 relevant personalities from the local and perhaps national community, of the events that preceded and followed the April 25th 1974.

Until the end of 2024, this exhibition will tour the other parishes of the municipality; Martim Longo and Vaqueiros.

From July 15th to August 15th, the village of Pereiro, in the old parish council building, hosts the exhibition “Freedom: 50 Years in Memories”, part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

This exhibition, promoted by the Municipal Museum/Municipality of Alcoutim, is made up of 10 panels, and aims to guide the visitor on a journey through the memories, personal and non-transferable, of 6 relevant personalities from the local and perhaps national community, of the events that preceded and followed the April 25th 1974.

Until the end of 2024, this exhibition will tour the other parishes of the municipality; Giões, Martim Longo and Vaqueiros.

The II Bibliomargens Meeting, organized by the Baixo Guadiana Library Network and the Alcoutim City Council, is this year dedicated to the theme Libraries: Spaces of Freedom. It will take place at Espaço Guadiana, on May 28, 2024, in the town of Alcoutim.

The meeting program will focus on the vital role of libraries as centers of intellectual freedom, access to information and cultural expression. The event will bring together librarians, teacher librarians, teachers, and community members to discuss how libraries can promote and preserve freedom in a variety of ways.

On April 26th, Afonso Dias presents the project “O Princípio da Igualdade” (The Principle of Equality), part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

“I was one of the youngest deputies of the Constituent Assembly and voted, on April 2, 1976, for the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic”.

“With the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April and the 1976 Constitution approaching, I prepared a recital, whose repertoire features poets and composers who are among the most representative of Portuguese culture of the 20th and 21st centuries.”

This project is called “O Princípio da Igualdade” (The Principle of Equality) in honor of the 1976 Constitution and its Article 13.

At 10:00 am, the Escola Básica e Integrada de Martim Longo receives the project “O Princípio da Igualdade” (The Principle of Equality), by Afonso Dias.

Each recital, for approximately 50 students (2 classes), lasts one hour and is made up of poems, songs and excerpts from the Constitution.

At 10:00 pm, it’s the turn of Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, to host “O Princípio da Igualdade” (The Principle of Equality). The show is free entry.

The inaugural series, “Alcoutim Lembra Abril”, from the radio program “Memórias de Alcoutim”, began on January 27, with fortnightly episodes on Saturdays at 10 am, in addition to repeats every Wednesday at 10 am. This special series highlights the memories and stories related to April 25, 1974, the Carnation Revolution, from several alcoutenejos.

From April 22nd to April 28th, RCA – Rádio Clube de Alcoutim will repeat the episodes, released from January 27th to April 20th, at 5 pm, on 94.4 FM:

April 22nd, 5 pm – “From Palmeira to military life”

José Cavaco Madeira, born in Monte da Palmeira, who joined the Portuguese Navy at 17 years of age.

April 23rd, 5 pm – “Teaching before and after April 74”

Susete Romba Guerreiro, retired teacher, who lived her childhood in the village of Pereiro where she currently resides.

April 24th, 5 pm – “Memories of an Alcoutenejo student, who remembers April in the academic world”

José Dias Rodrigues, professor, who lived on April 25th as a university student.

April 25th, 5 pm – “Memories of an Alcouteneja, born, raised and resident in the village of Martim Longo”

Mrs. Maria do Nascimento Candeias Lopes Evangelista, seamstress, who learned the trade at home with her mother.

April 26th, 5 pm – Mr. Leopoldino António de Campos, retired army captain, who will share some of his memories, born and raised in Preguiças, parish of Vaqueiros, a nonagenarian who had a career in the Army, and participated in the colonial war.

April 27th, 5 pm – Odília Paulino, was born into a family of traders in the village of Giões, in the 1940s

April 28th, 5 pm – Carlos Brito, prominent opponent of the Estado Novo, a freedom fighter, well-known Portuguese politician, journalist and writer.

From April 25th to May 31st, the Carlos Brito Municipal Library, in Alcoutim, hosts the exhibition “Freedom: 50 Years in Memories”, part of the “50 Years of Freedom” project.

This exhibition, promoted by the Municipal Museum/Municipality of Alcoutim, is made up of 10 panels, and aims to guide the visitor on a journey through the memories, personal and non-transferable, of 6 relevant personalities from the local and perhaps national community, of the events that preceded and followed the April 25th 1974.

On April 25th, at 10:15 am, the exhibition and the brochure “Freedom: 50 Years in Memories” will be presented at the Carlos Brito Municipal Library, in Alcoutim, as part of the Celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the April Revolution.

On April 24th, at 10pm, Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, hosts another show as part of the “Liberdade: 50 Anos de Liberdade” project: Música no Teu Tempo.

“Música no Teu Tempo” is a music show by a local group that sings Zeca Afonso and intervention songs, promoted by the Union of Parishes of Alcoutim and Pereiro.

Exhibition “Visite-nos | Visitez-nous”

Jardim Cidade de Blain, Av. de Espanha, in Alcoutim

From April 23, 2024 to January 6, 2025, the exhibition “Visite-nos! Visitez-nous”, will be open to the public in Alcoutim and Blain, Nantes – France. This photography exhibition, promoted by the Municipal Museum/Municipality of Alcoutim and Mairie de Blain/Comité de Jumelage Blain, is made up of 20 photographs by 12 photographers, 7 Portuguese and 7 French, who aim to entice the visitor to visit the two locations.

On April 23rd, at 10:30 am, the exhibition “Visite-nos | Visitez-nous” will open at Jardim Cidade de Blain, Av. de Espanha, in Alcoutim. As part of the 20th Anniversary of the Twinning between Alcoutim and Blain, this exhibition is one of the actions prepared to welcome the Blain delegation, which will be in Alcoutim, from April 22nd to 26th.

On the 23rd and 24th of April, Blain’s delegation will visit the municipality’s points of interest, some local institutions and associations. On the 25th of April they will participate in the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Revolução dos Cravos and in the Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Twinning between Alcoutim and Blain.
