The International Congress in the Municipalities of Sanlúcar-Alcoutim is the final activity of “The project of R+D+I Cultural Heritage and Memorias de Frontera en el Sur Ibérico” (2020/22) carried out by teams of anthropology and architecture of the universities Pablo de Olavide, from Seville, from Évora and from the Algarve and other institutions and have the main objective of disseminating and promoting investigations and interventions in cross-border heritage.

The location and organization of the conference, in close collaboration with its local administrations, wants to promote the agency of border territories for a work of cooperation and involvement of different research and intervention experiences in cross-border patrimonies.

• On June 18th, free entry to the gardens from 9 am to 7 pm. The exhibitions of the Archeology Museum of the Municipal Museum are closed to the public;
• On June 19th, it is closed to the public.

Exhibition “Guarda-fiscal no Baixo Guadiana”

Exhibition based on the research of Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Fernandes, organized by the Municipality of Alcoutim/Municipal Museum in close collaboration with the Núcleo de Vila Real de St.º António da Liga dos Combatentes, which reconstructs the timeline of “the creation of a militarized force under a single command which would be tasked with defending and guarding Portugal’s land and maritime borders as well as carrying out tax collection wherever and whenever necessary, thereby reducing smuggling, increasing tax receipts, and making the public administration more efficient in these matters. From the time of its foundation onwards, the Fiscal Guard underwent several reforms to adapt to various government constraints and the changing social and economic conditions faced in its 108 years of existence. However, it always operated as a model national institution.”
